The legendary Greys pub on Southover Street, Hanover, Brighton has been listed by the council as an Asset of Community Value and has a proud history of staging international music, bringing acts from all over the world, attracted by its intimacy and knowledgeable audience. It is also famous for Belgian beer and being a great place to meet interesting new people or have a drink or two with friends. It will make a brilliant resource in community hands.
Over the past seven years this extremely popular local has seen multiple changes of management and the vast Ei Group Ltd. that owns it has finally concluded that the pub no longer fits with their corporate business model. We at last have a terrific opportunity to save this wonderful place for the future, or loose it forever.
The Save the Greys campaign was formed to buy The Greys for the people that will use it. The site has been granted Asset of Community Value status by the Council and shares in the Community Benefit Society have been on sale since 2nd December. SITR tax break of 30% was agreed by HMRC on 31st January:- Save The Greys!
Our vision is to reinvent The Greys as a social enterprise owned and run by the residents of Hanover and the wider public of Brighton and beyond. We aim to additionally provide a daytime resource for community groups, offering space for creativity, learning, support and wellbeing initiatives run by, and for, residents.
We will be free to focus on providing great local real ales and a wide range of craft beers, including Belgium beers of all styles, and energising the on-going Greys tradition of international live music. Any surplus profits will go to shareholders and be ploughed back into local community causes.
